Manufacturing loops
A working approach to identifying useful material pathways within manufacturing.
Understand the process
Map the inputs, transformations and residual streams of one production line. Reconcile available records before proposing a new outlet. Quality specifications and contamination can determine whether a circular pathway is feasible.
Explore the routes
Compare prevention, internal reuse and external recovery in that order. Include energy, transport and processing requirements. A route that moves a residual stream elsewhere does not automatically preserve more value.
Prepare a decision
Document technical requirements, commercial conditions and the evidence still needed. Define a bounded trial and the acceptance criteria for its output. Connect the next action to a responsible process owner.
